The Challenge
The process of matching images of missing children with potential sightings in escort ads and other sources was once highly manual, fragmented, and time-consuming. Investigators had to manage multiple disconnected tools and handle thousands of images across spreadsheets and databases, with each potential match taking hours of work. The challenge has been described as "finding a needle in a haystack," and many leads were never pursued simply because there weren’t enough hours in the day. To overcome this, the organization developed an integrated, automated system that streamlines the investigative workflow, allowing investigators to focus on what they do best: following leads and bringing children home safely.
The Solution
Unframe built VISION, a comprehensive case management and image-matching platform specifically designed for missing children investigations that meet the nexus of trafficking. VISION automates the entire workflow: images from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other sources are automatically ingested, indexed, and matched against databases of escort ads and social media content using AI-powered facial recognition. Matches are scored by similarity and queued for investigator review, with built-in tools for image enhancement, face-check integrations, and case annotation.
The platform includes flexible investigator workflows (accept, reject, skip), collaborative case management with export capabilities, and a secure, on-premises AWS deployment to ensure data sovereignty and compliance. Every match is traceable, and investigators maintain full control over the process with human-in-the-loop verification at every step.
A key feature of VISION is the interactive Case Network Graph. It shows hidden connections by linking a missing child to related information like phone numbers, aliases, locations, ads, photos, and known contacts, all in one clear, easy-to-use view.
Investigators can quickly trace relationships that would otherwise require hours of manual cross-referencing, identifying patterns such as repeated contact details across ads, shared imagery between cases, or geographic movement over time. What was once buried across spreadsheets and disconnected systems is now instantly explorable, transforming investigation from linear search into network-based discovery.
Impact
VISION is now live and fully operational, advancing Freed People’s mission to locate missing children and combat sex trafficking. By automating the most time-consuming parts of the investigative workflow, VISION allows the organization to investigate cases more quickly, follow more leads, and bring significantly more children home in less time than ever before.
This is Advanced AI focused on what truly matters: saving children’s lives. When a missing child appears in an ad somewhere across the country… we don’t hope we find them.
We already have.
